The empire’s strength was largely based on Alexander’s powerful personality, but that didn’t mean his successors shared his goals.

Alexander’s resistance Hellenistic (Greek) culture had caught up with him, and the Greeks saw his death as an opportunity to reassert their influence.

Naming the city of Alexandria after himself had made him seem too arrogant, so after his death his subjects rejected what he had achieved.

Despite his success, Alexander was hated by most his subjects, so after his death many of his accomplishments were undone.
