WATCH: What is Fascism?
Professor Amy Robinson discusses fascism, a violent ideology that emerged in Italy and Germany after World War I. Fascist leaders like Mussolini and Hitler used nationalism and racism to push their citizens to expel or murder those deemed to be enemies of the state. Fascism wasn't just limited to one historical period or geography, however: Professor Robinson describes fascist movements in the US as well, including the KKK. Created by World History Project.

- I’m wondering why Fascism is labeled as a right wing political entity when according to your definition today it sounds almost exactly like what the left in America is doing today with defining people along racial lines and gathering all the different minority groups together and banding them together against a political party on the other side. In addition the vast majority of violence as a means to an end is from the American left. What makes fascism more right wing and left wing? Sure there are some parts of your definition that can be applied to both the right and the left but overwhelmingly it sounds like the American life. I just want to fully understand the definition.
