### Course: Numbers & Operations - The Real & Complex Number Systems 211-217>Unit 1

Lesson 1: Decimal place value intro

# Decimal place value review

Review decimal place value, and try some practice problems.

## Place value chart

The number $87.654$ can be placed on a place value chart as follows:
TensOnes.TenthsHundredthsThousandths
$8$$7$$.$$6$$5$$4$

## Decimal place value

The first digit after the decimal represents the tenths place. The next digit after the decimal represents the hundredths place. The remaining digits continue to fill in the place values until there are no digits left.
Example: $0.81$
The number $0.81$ is made up of $8$ tenths and $1$ hundredth.
We can also write this as:
$0.81=0.8+0.01$
or
$0.81=\frac{8}{10}+\frac{1}{100}$
Or we can use a place value chart:
Ones.TenthsHundredths
$0$$.$$8$$1$

## Practice

Problem 1
The digit $9$ in which number represents a value of $0.009$?
