• Essentially, what he is saying is that he is trying to split 8 into 3 different groups. So, he gets the biggest amount he can get into each group with 3 groups, but there still are a few left.

• At , are we supposed to do 2 r 1 or 4 r 1? In other words, up or down?
• At , the instructor has just written the problem: 8 ÷ 3. Written in remainder notation, 8 ÷ 3 = 2R2.

If you were talking about 8 ÷ 2, the answer is always 4, no matter which way you do it.
