Lesson 2: Divide whole numbers to get a decimal quotient

# Divide whole numbers with decimal quotients: 78÷12

Practice the concept of dividing whole numbers to get a decimal quotient. Learn how to break down division problems by finding multiples and using remainders. It also shows how to simplify fractions and convert them into decimals. Created by Sal Khan.

• hmmmm...i also don't get it its still to complicated
• Well there is a simpler way, you could do the basic division, but when you hit your remainder(since every number has an invisible decimal after it) you bring the zero and the decimal down and put a decimal in the answer. For example, if I were to divide 20 divided by 80 we would look at how many times 80 can fit into 20; 0 times! So we place 0 in our quotient spot and we bring down .0 to our 20 so it's 20.0. How many times does 80 fit into 20.0?0.2 times because 80 times 0.2 is 16. 20 take away 16 is 4.00. 80 fits into 4.00 0.05 times. So we add 0.05 to our answer to make it 0.25.
• i dont get it when we get to the part where its 72 over 12 plus six where did we get the six to add it to 72? also i just dont really get the video. any tips?
• It is actually just dividing. Khan's drawings might have confused you but I also get confused too sometimes. You can watch this video again to understand it more or watch other people's explanations about this topic. Hope this helped.
• what if its 19 divide 38 then what
• If you mean 19 divided by 38, because the divisor in greater than the dividend, you will be getting a fractional (or decimal) value less than 1 as your answer (or 0 as your answer with a remainder).
• i curse the day that the person who invented math was born
• Why can the numbers multiplied together (in the numerator) be simplified or divided by the denominator? Why can't we just divide or simply the numbers which are added or subtracted together?
• how many times can the bottom go into the top that's the answer
• Is there a shorter way ? My brain is going CRAZY 😵‍💫 I NEED HELP!
• I think there is a way but idk.
• In a real situation how can i use this
• You have 78 feet of rope (why do you have so much?). If you want to give your 12 friends an equal amount of rope, how much rope do you give them?
• heeeeeey wat d heck is this! I dunno wat any of this is!
