Lesson 2: Plotting points on cartesian planeFinding the point not graphed
Learn to spot the missing point on a graph! By comparing coordinate pairs to points on a graph, we can identify which pair isn't represented. This skill is key in understanding graphs, a fundamental part of math! Created by Sal Khan.

- Where do I find the points earned?(6 votes)
- If you watched the video for the first time all the way through, you can know that you have received 850 energy points. For every consecutive time that you watch it, you earn 100 energy points.(11 votes)
Oops! In the "About" section, below the video, may I draw your attention, it says: "Some of the given ordered pairs are already graphed on the coordinate
pane
<-- (THIS IS ME: this supposed to be "plane"!) in this example, but not all of them. Can you tell which haven't? Created by Sal Khan." It says "pane", it's supposed to say "plane". Oh no! Is anybody else noticing that? CAN SOMBODY FIX IT? PLEASE ANSWER...!`
(I know that the big lettering is unusual, but I want people to read this and figure out the mistake! Thats little disturbing but it has its purpose.)(9 votes)- It was most likely that it was a small typo, but don't worry, it's not going to affect anything. :)(1 vote)
- what a break from the adds(9 votes)
- how do you do a coordinate pair that is in the middle of 2 numbers?(7 votes)
- Let us say you get 2 and 1 half (2 1\2) and 3. The points are (2 1\2, 3) Your grid has to be in halves. In the grid, the points have to be like this: 0, 1\2, 1, 1 1\2, 2 and so on. That way, you will have space to put it in.
But let us say you have it into fourths. 2\4 is equal to half, so 2 and 2\4 is equal to 2 and 1\2.
Hope this helped!(1 vote)
- how old whould you be to undersand this?(4 votes)
- Well... it depends on many things, like what education system you are learning on. Like if I would learn about graphs in grade 7 in my country, then in other places, students would learn about graphs in grade 5 or 6.(4 votes)
- How will i know where to put (-7/0) at on the graph(3 votes)
- Think about it like this:
You have to first get in an elevator in order to go up.
So you first start on the horizontal line (x-axis) to get in, and then you go to the vertical line (y-axis) to go up or down.
Example: Plot (-7,2)
First you get in the elevator, so you go -7 to the left on the x-axis.
Then the elevator goes up (+2) on the y-axis.
Then you just plot the point where you end up (if the x or y coordinate is zero, then you don't move).
Hope this analogy was somewhat helpful.(4 votes)
- I understand the four quadrants already but where would the point ( 0,0 ) lie in? The X and Y axis?(4 votes)
- (0,0) is the origin, so it is in the middle of the 4 quadrants.(4 votes)
- understand the four quadrants already but where would the point ( 0,0 ) lie in? The X and Y axis?(3 votes)
- The point where the x and y axes intersect, and that would be the origin.(3 votes)
- how do you do a coordinate pair that is in the middle of 2 numbers?(3 votes)
- Do you mean a point like 2.5 That is found in between the numbers 2 and 3. If so then you just click on the space inbetween the two numbers and a dot will apear there.(2 votes)

Consider the following
coordinate pairs. And they give us a
bunch right over here. Which of those pairs
is not graphed below? So let's see, 3
comma negative 2. So 3 comma negative 2,
well, actually, that looks like that first
one is not graphed. So 3 comma negative
2 isn't graphed. And you can verify that
all of these others do seem to be graphed. 4 comma negative
8 is right there. Negative 8 comma 3
is right over here. 4 comma 6 is right there. And negative 1 comma
0 is right there. So let's do a couple
more of these. So is negative 5
comma 0 graphed? Yep. It's right over there. Negative 4 comma positive
5 should be there. So that's not graphed. So let me just select that one. Let's do one more of these. Negative 8 comma 4, so negative
8 comma 4, we got lucky. The first one is not
graphed-- negative 8 comma 4. And we're done.
